How to ride a Jeepney?
Jeepney it's one of the major transportation here in the Philippines and also the cheapest.
Here in the Philippines Cabs and Uber is a luxury thing comparing to the fare of Jeepney it is way more expensive.
So here are the steps on how to ride a Jeepney.
Step 1.Know where are you going.
It is essential for you to know where are you going. Because Jeepney does not work like a cab basically Jeepney Travels from point a to point b but your destination is between the route so you just have to tell the driver to drop you in your destination. and take note also you can ride the Jeepney even if you are not coming from point A they are taking in passengers along the way.
Download Sakay.ph
On this app you can see the routes of Jeepney's and what Jeepney to take when going to your destination.
Step 2. Look for the signboard on the Jeepney.
So basically there are signboards on Jeepney make sure you pay attention to them because it indicates there route.
Step 3. Hail the Jeepney.
Hail the Jeepney like hailing for a hitch but this time indicate how many person who will be hitching use your fingers depends if you are with 2 or more person. This will tell the driver how many person that will added to his Jeepney and be mindful of the driver feedback because it will also tell you how many seats are available.
Step 4. Seat on the Jeepney.
So the rule is you don't seat on the Jeepney like you are on a cab or bus because one long chair have to be seated by 10 people no matter what is the body size of the passenger (LOL so if you think you are occupying more space pay for it although it is not required)
Step 5. Pay the exact fare.
Pay the exact fare specially when it is morning.
Because some of the drivers don't have a change for $2 or ₱100 specially if you are paying only for yourself but if you are with someone or in group ₱100 will do. The Basic fare is $0.18cents or ₱9 for the first 4 kilometers.
Step 6. Tell the driver where you are heading.
Make sure to tell the driver where is your destination because they will alight you near or directly in your destination. This allows them also to tell how much you will be paying.
Step 7. Listen to music or chat with your companion while traveling avoid using Cellphones.
Jeepney rides can be an hour drive or just a minutes drive depends on your destination and traffic and it is really boring not unless there is a music or Tv in the Jeepney. Don't use phone for safety reasons.
Jeepney rides for me is a cheaper alternative way of communicating compare to Cab and other method of transportation it is way cheaper but there are also some cons.
It is hastle riding Jeepney specially if you have so many stuffs with you and it takes so much time before you can get to your destination. It is also hot and sometimes or more often you have to bring face mask because of the car exhaust and you will be expose to rain but there is a cover so you don't have to worry about it. Overall Jeepney rides are exciting and every Jeepney ride is a new experience it is not the same so if this is your first time riding a Jeep expect the unexpected.
